Certificate in Intercultural Ministry
Preparation for culturally-agile ministry, including travel-based study
Intercultural Ministry at North Park
The 12-credit-hour certificate in intercultural ministry prepares leaders to serve in diverse cultural settings, both locally and globally. It is fitting for lay leaders seeking firsthand insight into global ministry with theological depth; seminary students investing further into their intercultural development for effective ministry; and current congregational leaders seeking to equip their congregation to think, plan, and practice interculturally as part of its witness to the whole gospel “in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the ends of the earth.”
Program length and modalities
Students typically complete this program in 15 months and can apply the credit hours toward a master’s degree from North Park Theological Seminary. The certificate is available in online and cohort formats, both anchored by a required immersive travel experience, such as the program’s recent “The Colombia Experience,” in which students and instructors experienced the energy, music, spiritual environment, and new understandings of relationships in their encounter with the Church in Colombia. Specific courses may be offered in hybrid or in-person intensive formats.

- Required core courses (six credit hours)
- MNST 5110 – Religions and Cultures
- MSNT 6100 – Mission Equipping and Training or MSNT 6145 – Mission of God: Insights for Service
- Global immersion course (three credit hours)—one option per year, past courses have included:
- MNST 6130 – The Gospel in Asian Context
- MNST 6135 – Experiencing African Christianity
- MNST 6140 – Experiencing Global Christianity
- MNST 6352 – Journey to Mosaic
- MNST 6401 – Sankofa: Racial Righteousness and Reconciliation
- Capstone course (three credit hours)
- MNST 6155 – Becoming an Effective Intercultural Development Inventory Qualified Administrator
