North Park Theological Seminary welcomes transfer students to our master’s degree programs.

After being accepted to North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS), any student can request that NPTS evaluate prior graduate theological work at an accredited institution for transfer credits. Based on course content, this may count toward required courses or elective courses.

Transfer policy

A student may transfer up to half of the required credits for the degree to which they are applying.

Academic credit is valid for 10 years. Any credit earned more than 10 years before your application to NPTS cannot be transferred. You must provide official transcripts from any seminary you previously attended. Have your transcripts sent directly to NPTS to dataentry@northpark.edu or:

North Park University
Office of Seminary Admissions, Box 19
3225 W. Foster Ave.
Chicago, IL 60625

If you are transferring credit earned within the last five years, you will need to provide a letter of good standing from the dean of your previous school. This letter should verify to NPTS that you are in good standing, both financially and academically, with that institution and are ready to begin studies at NPTS.

If you earned a bachelor’s degree at North Park University, you may be able to receive advanced standing for biblical studies courses taken while an undergraduate student. This could serve as transfer credit toward required or elective courses.

Transfer process

After being accepted to a degree program, you may request that NPTS evaluate your transcripts for transfer credits. NPTS will not do so until you are admitted into a program. You must submit the transfer credit request, and NPTS must receive your official transcripts at least one month before orientation for the semester in which you plan to begin studies.

The Office of Academic Services will complete your transfer evaluation, which may take several weeks. It will evaluate courses based on their content. Any official course descriptions you provide, such as those from syllabi or a course catalog, will assist in this process.

Accepted credits will be transferred either as required or elective courses, depending on their content as evaluated by the Office of Academic Services. You’ll receive an official evaluation report from the office detailing the transfer credits you will receive.

You can find more information about the transfer credit process and policy in the NPTS academic handbook.
