While not designed for ordination, this program is ideal for those serving in support roles in the church or for individuals seeking to integrate theological insight into their everyday work, volunteer service, or congregational involvement.

Program length and modalities


Students typically complete this program in two years as a full-time student or three years as a part-time student. It consists of 36 credit hours, plus three field-education credit hours. It can be completed as a distance, commuter, or residential student. Distance students work online during the spring and fall semesters and travel to campus for immersion experiences.

BIBL 5240 – New Testament 1: The Texts and Their World
This course examines the interpretation and context of the New Testament, emphasizing hermeneutical issues and historical criticism as foundations for theological interpretation. Students study the political, social, and religious contexts of Second Temple Judaism and Greco-Roman society, survey key New Testament books, and explore major theological themes such as Christology and eschatology, and the nature of Scripture.

SPFM 5211 – Intercultural Spirituality: Praying Together
This seminar-style course will address students’ experiences of community and engagement with cultures other than their own through the lens of prayer. The Lord’s Prayer, as a common and biblical Christian prayer, will frame the conversation as we explore its ability to cross divides of community, culture, and history.

Dr. Elizabeth Pierre

Pierre is an assistant professor of pastoral care and counseling psychology who brings her experiences as a pastor and licensed professional counselor into the classroom. Her goal is for her students to integrate their learning into various aspects of their own lives as much as into their ministry to others.
