Leader’s Cohort: The Cost of Discipleship in Context: Learning from Bonhoeffer

Date: 01/01/2026

Join us as we seek to create an interactive space for leaders to grow in their understanding of discipleship, and develop methods to foster this in their own ministry contexts.

Presently, there is an urgent need for pastoral engagement around discipleship. Inasmuch as our desire for ourcongregations to be formed by pastoral leadership, many of our people are being formed (discipled) by politics, socialmedia (“bubbles” and “echo chambers”), and unrecognized bias. This cohort will clearly root itself in embodieddiscipleship in cultural context. The goal is to provide an interactive space for pastors/ministerial leaders tounderstand discipleship in their cultural contexts, but also provide a method/module for them to lead/teach this intheir own ministry contexts. Through teaching and discussion, a clear vision for discipleship will spark a pastoralintention within their ministry context with courage and provide some options for the means within their contextthrough coaching.

This cohort will be led by Bret Widman. The cohort will involve a hybrid format. The cohort will alternate betweenteaching meetings and discussion group meetings. All meetings will take place via Zoom from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.CST.
